Maintenance of pH value

First and foremost, you have to make sure that the pH-value remains between 7.2 and 7.6 pH. You can maintain the pH value of your pool water by adding pH Minus or pH Plus to it.

With a pH that is too high, hazardous bacteria may develop because the chlorine is less active then. Moreover, the combination of too little chlorine and too high a pH value can lead to algae growth and green pool water.

A pH value that is too low can lead to corrosion of all metal parts (e.g. ladders, lighting…) and to that irritating chlorine smell that causes eye, nose and skin irritations. But you can easily avoid these issues with proper pool maintenance.

Checking the chlorine content of the pool

After the pH value, you should also keep an eye on the active free chlorine. The presence of chlorine is necessary for clear and healthy water (= oxidised and disinfected water). The following concentrations of free chlorine should be used to sufficiently disinfect the pool:

  • Outdoor pool: between 1.0 and 2.5 mg/l
  • Indoor pool : between 0.5 and 1.5 mg/l

That way, the water in your pool is ideally maintained, clear and free from bacteria and viruses.

Technical & general pool maintenance

In addition to maintaining the chlorine and pH levels, you should also service your pool filter system. Backwashing the filter in good time ensures that the bound, non-active chlorine disappears from the pool.

Finally, it is important that you also remove coarse dirtfrom the pool. Some things can be easily scooped out with a scoop net, smaller dirt particles can be filtered out with a manual or robot hoover.

It is important that you service the pool several times a week. If you do that, pool maintenance will be limited to just a few minutes. However, postponing maintenance will inevitably lead to more work on the pool.

Automatic pool maintenance

Apart from manual maintenance, you can also choose for automatic pool maintenance. This can be done with the help of an automatic pH and chlorine dosage system. For more information on these dosage systems, you can visit one of our physical shops.

Besides automatic dosing, you still need to maintain the filter system and clean the pool with a scoop net or hoover. Although for this, a pool robot can be a great convenience!
